Passenger dies on-board Lagos bound Emirates flight

A Nigerian, Kofo Abaniwonda reportedly died on aboard Emirates Airline. She died Friday night shortly before the aircraft landed in Lagos.

According to a source at the Lagos airport who pleaded anonymity, the deceased with passport number A07562816 was a young woman.

Officials of the airline could not be reached as at the time of filing the report. learnt that the flight EK783 (DXB) arrived at 15:50 hrs with the corpse of Mrs. Abaniwonsa and was immediately evacuated from the airplane.

Immediately on arrival, the airline crew notified the medical team of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) who immediately swung into action, but the deceased was confirmed dead by Dr. Akano of FAAN Medical at 16:35hrs.


Immediately she was confirmed dead, FAAN officials together with the staff of the airline at the Lagos Airport evacuated her body from the aircraft, loaded her in a FAAN ambulance and moved her to the general hospital in Ikeja.

As at the time of filing this report, the cause of her death could not be ascertained.

A source said: “No one knows the exact time the woman died on-board the airplane, but immediately the aircraft landed, the crew called our attention to the incident and we had to inform FAAN officials.”

This is not the first time a Nigerian would be dying on-board Emirates coming into Nigeria. There are other numerous cases of passengers dying on-board the airline’s airplanes.

An Emirates flight from Dubai to Munich was recently diverted after a medical emergency on board.

The flight — EK049 — had to be diverted to Kuwait International Airport shortly after taking off on October 10 after a passenger developed health complications.

The passenger, who received immediate medical attention upon landing, unfortunately could not be saved.

“Emirates can confirm that flight EK049 from Dubai to Munich was diverted on October 10, 2017 to Kuwait International Airport due to a medical emergency,” Emirates said in a statement.

“The passenger received immediate medical attention upon landing, but unfortunately was pronounced dead by an emergency doctor on the ground.

“Emirates would like to express its condolences to the family of the deceased. The flight continued its journey to Munich where it landed approximately 2.5hrs behind schedule,” the statement added.
